NGI designed, installed, and operated a comprehensive instrumentation system for monitoring the seabed stability movement of the submarine wreck U-864 from World War II off the western coast of Norway.

Folldal mines - measures to reduce runoff containing heavy metals

Former mining operations in Folldal lead to acidic and heavy metal-containing water runoff to the river Folla downstream of the mining area. It has been concluded that the water is heavily polluted by metals, which is why there are no fish in the river Folla.

Government Building Complex on alum shale

The building site in Regjeringskvartalet, the Government Building Complex, consists mainly of alum shale and other black clay shales. In addition to the planning and follow-up of groundwork for tunnel and excavation pits for the new complex, NGI's work has included sampling, analysis and characterization of acidified rock masses.

IMiRO; Innovative monitoring of environmental risk is a R&D project to enhance knowledge related to in situ and online monitoring in order to probe environmental risk. A result from this research is a new method for measuring hydrocarbons/PAH in water.
