RedWin 2 - REDucing cost of offshore WINd

The project "RedWin 2 – REDucing cost of offshore WINd by integrated structural and geotechnical design" is an IPN research project funded under the ENERGIX program of the Research Council of Norway. The primary objective of RedWin 2 is to advance and merge engineering tools and methods, enabling designers of offshore wind turbine foundations to apply recent research and development results in design practice. This shall be achieved by developing a streamlined design workflow for optimization relevant for developers and designers of Offshore Wind Farms, both in Norway and internationally.

Safety and risk streaming through the city - Halden municipality

When the municipality of Halden began to review its area planning, they saw a need for more knowledge about safety and risk along two streams running through the center of the city; Remmenbekken and Schultzebekken.

Sustainable Mine Tailings

A three year R&D project initiated by NGI to develop geo-solutions for sustainable and robust management of Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs), addressing the entire life cycle from planning to operation and closure. The project is financed through NGI's annual basic research funding from the Research Council of Norway.

VOW - Valorization of Organic Waste

The main objective of the VOW project (Valorization of Organic Waste into Sustainable Products for Clean-up of Contaminated Water, Soil, and Air) is to use biological waste to create sustainable products for soil, air and wastewater treatment. VOW is one of five projects funded in the 50-million NOK call by the Research Council of Norway on joint industry projects in sustainable development (BIA-Bærekraft).

ACT4storage - Technologies for monitoring of CO2 storage

The ACT4storage project, Acoustic and Chemical Technologies for environmental monitoring of geological carbon storage) aim to gain a better understanding of the capabilities and limitations of relevant acoustic and chemical technologies, for application to marine CCS monitoring (i.e., monitoring the seabed and water column above a storage site).

Fløyheia elevator and walkway in Arendal

In the center of Arendal on the southern coast of Norway, an elevator has been built in the rock hillside to transport people from the city square up to the new city center Fløyheia. NGI has been responsible for rock engineering design of the construction work for the tunnel shaft and surrounding facilities.

PHUSICOS - reduce risk in mountain landscapes

Research on solutions to reduce risk in mountain landscapes. PHUSICOS – “According to nature” in Greek – is funded by the EU Horizon 2020 program. It will demonstrate how nature-based solutions provide robust, sustainable and cost-effective measures for reducing the risk of extreme weather events in rural mountain landscapes. SAFEWAY - resilience of terrestrial transport infrastructure

SAFEWAY is a research project with main aim is to significantly increase the resilience of terrestrial transport infrastructure by design, validate and implement holistic methods, strategies, tools and technical interventions. SAFEWAY is funded from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, and coordinated by the University of Vigo in Spain.

Salt stabilizing of quick clay

This is a research project with main goal is to find a sustainable, non-invasive, safe and time-efficient installation method for salt wells in quick clay areas. The project is funded by REFMIDT as well as the involved project participants, Stjørdal municipality, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, NVE, Bane Nor, NGI and Multiconsult.
