AKAL suction bucket jacket
On assignment from Global Maritime Stavanger NGI performed the detailed geotechnical design of the bucket foundations for a jacket platform in the Bay of Campeche, Gulf of Mexico.
In the Bay of Campeche, Gulf of Mexico, a jacket with suction buckets is used to support a pipe bridge between the Akal platform and a new compression platform.
NGI performed the detailed geotechnical design of the bucket foundations. During the design process, NGI acted as an advisor to Global Maritime, starting with the concept evaluation, review of soil conditions, sizing of the bucket foundations and analysis of penetration resistance to determine the under base pressure required to reach target depth.
The jacket was successfully installed in 2016. Due to the soft soil conditions at the site, each suction bucket had to be penetrated to 14.5 m below seabed level.
